Los Angeles Petite Wedding | Christina + David

Los Angeles wedding with kilts

What kind of couple asks if you will photograph their wedding the following year, then casually mentions, we’re actually going to have a very intimate ceremony this year with our families. Would you be willing to photograph it?

(The answer was of course, a whole hearted yes!)

Upon arrival, we were greeted and gifted with custom masks (made by our dear friend Katie of Endless Handmade) as well as a lovely bottle of wine from their favorite winery! What kind of couple does that? Christina and David.

These two are so sweet, warm, welcoming and kind, it already feels like we’ve known them our whole lives. The best part? We still get to see them for an engagement session AND their “big” wedding next year! How lucky are we?

We were SO impressed with how this petite wedding was set up at St. Bede the Venerable in La Canada Flintridge ( it’s in Los Angeles if you don’t live here ;) ). The Parish wisely pivoted to hold their masses virtually and also can hold a small outside mass as well with spaced out seating and plenty of shade. Everyone was asked to wear masks for the ceremony. We were very impressed with how well it was handled!

We adore the way these two kept looking at each other after saying “I do!” David kept playing with his ring and couldn’t help but smile when he looked down at it. It’s pretty clear that these two are simply happy to be married. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if it’s masked, unmasked, in a church, outside a church, a big wedding, a small wedding, just simply happy to know they get to spend every day together.

As if Christina and David aren’t incredible enough people, can we talk about this couple’s style for a quick moment? I mean, the kilts?? Yes. And her dress plus fascinator?! So good. That bouquet?! All the heart eye emojis.

We simply cannot wait for what Christina and David’s Los Angeles wedding next fall will bring! Although, truth be told, if small weddings as sweet and memorable like this were the new rage, we wouldn’t be mad about it. Not that big weddings are special and extremely fun, but sometimes we find couples and their families can get so wrapped up in all the necessary details to have such a large celebration that the true purpose of the day can get a little overshadowed. Although this year has been full of many ups and downs for so many of our couples, it’s allowed us to see that these small weddings can be just as, if not all the more special. 2020 has showed us, we aren’t promised the future, so you should enjoy the now.

We’ve been lucky enough to witness first hand that there’s something so beautiful in the simplicity of keeping a wedding day focused solely on the purpose of a wedding: committing to spend the rest of your life married to the person you love most in this world, your best friend.
